A Tribal Celebration: Tribalation! CD Release
Show
On Saturday, June 24, 2006, tribal belly dancing rocked the
house at Luna Jazz Club in Eugene, Oregon as Americanistan celebrated the release of their newest CD. Tribalation! the troupe for
which the CD is named, danced to all the music from the CD plus a few more. The troupe performed twice, with a costume change.
Their sets included baskets, a candle dance, a tribal drum solo, an Indian fusion number and Sabine's signature double sword
dance. Sabine, director of the troupe, worked closely with the musicians of Americanistan to create music which was
as moody, powerful and haunting as her dance. The piece, titled "Dangerous," is sparse and moody, with musical references
to the sharpness of the blades and an ominous quality building to a climax.
Elena Villa performed a solo inspired by Turkish Gypsy dance.
Her fiery solo was a great contrast to the troupe dances.
All in all, it was a wonderful evening of high-energy, high-quality
entertainment from all of the performers.
