Our dear friend and band member, Ishaq (Daniel Jud) passed away very suddenly and
unexpectedly on Friday, July 28, 2006 in the afternoon. He had been on an outing with fellow Red Cross employees, laughing
and playing in the waters of the McKenzie River, when his heart stopped beating due to comploications of diabetes, a disease
he had dealt with since the age of 9. His companions were able to keep his heart beating with CPR until the ambulance
arrived, but at the hospital doctors were unable to revive him.
Ishaq was one of the kindest, clearest-thinking men I have ever known. He was a
Sheik in both the Sufi Ruhaniat International and the Mevlevi Order of America. He followed the Sufi path for over 30 years.
He also brought Dances of Universal Peace to Eugene in 1973.
Ishaq was a positive influence on everyone around him. He was a wonderful
partner to Anna and an awesome musician.
We miss him very much.
A Celebration of Life was held for Sheikh Ishaq Daniel Jud on Sunday,
September 24, 2006 at Unity of the Valley church in Eugene.
The Celebration encompassed the many paths and
joys of Ishaq's life - Sufi Zikr, Dances of Universal Peace, music, dance and words from some of those who were close
to him in his work at the American Red Cross.
